Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has condemned the deadly attack in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of three vigilantes and triggered protests that temporarily disrupted traffic along the Jos–Barkin Ladi highway.
The attack occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with the state government describing the incident as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable.”
In a statement issued on Friday through the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, Mutfwang commiserated with the families and communities affected by the killings.
The governor assured residents that security agencies were taking steps to identify and apprehend those responsible while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.
The attack sparked anger among youths and women in Kassa, who reportedly blocked the major highway in protest over the killings and recurring insecurity in the area. The government subsequently appealed to protesters to reopen the road, warning that blockades could expose travellers to further danger.
The government said the Jos–Barkin Ladi highway is now open to motorists, while urging travellers and residents to remain vigilant.
Mutfwang also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and prevent further violence.
The latest incident comes amid renewed attacks across parts of Plateau State, particularly Barkin Ladi and neighbouring local government areas, where communities have continued to demand stronger protection.
