A 46-year-old Florida woman and her 22-year-old son have been arrested and charged with incest after deputies investigating a domestic dispute allegedly uncovered a sexual relationship between them.
Christina Clemens and her son, Shane Clemens, were arrested in Lakeland, southwest of Orlando, following a call to police over an alleged altercation between the pair.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Christina contacted authorities and reported that Shane had struck her during the domestic dispute. Deputies responded to the scene and arrested Shane.
According to Judd, Shane became angry after learning that his mother had contacted law enforcement and that he had been arrested.
The sheriff said Shane subsequently told deputies that he and his mother had been engaged in a sexual relationship since he turned 18.
Detectives later questioned Christina about the allegation and asked whether she had engaged in sexual activity with her son since he reached the age of 18.
According to Judd, Christina confirmed the relationship and gave a response that suggested it had occurred repeatedly.
Detectives also spoke with Christina’s husband, whose identity was not disclosed.
Judd said the husband told investigators he had been unaware of the alleged relationship but had previously found it suspicious that his wife and son would enter the master bedroom and lock the door.
Christina and Shane were both charged with incest, according to the sheriff’s office. Christina also faces an additional charge of adultery.
The allegations are now subject to the court process, and both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
