The Ministry of Interior of Nigeria announced on Twitter an hour ago that it has established a high-level working group with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) to expedite the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across its agencies.
This decision follows a meeting in Abuja between the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Pi-CNG’s Executive Chairman, Ismaeel Ahmed. According tothe Interior Ministry, Minister Tunji-Ojo highlighted the potential benefits of transitioning to CNG, including fleet conversion, improved logistics, enhanced border operations, cleaner energy use, and cost savings.
He directed the immediate formation of a joint team that will include representatives from the Ministry’s agencies and Pi-CNG to drive this initiative forward.
Barr. Ahmed commended the Minister’s reform efforts and outlined areas for collaboration, such as fleet conversion, establishing a credit facility for vehicle upgrades, and providing training to build technical capacity. He reaffirmed Pi-CNG’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria.
This initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure and improving operational efficiency within the Ministry of Interior.
