A woman identified as Oluchi has been found in a hotel in Delta State after allegedly staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ₦50 million ransom from her family, in a case that has left relatives shocked and devastated.
The incident initially sparked concern among family members and members of the public after Oluchi was reported missing from the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Edo State.
According to reports, her children, including a daughter living in Canada, had launched appeals for financial assistance after the alleged kidnappers reportedly reduced their ransom demand from ₦50 million to ₦20 million.
However, the case took a dramatic turn when police investigations allegedly uncovered that the abduction had been staged.
Sources familiar with the investigation said detectives tracked the phone number of a suspected accomplice to a hotel in Ubiaroko, Delta State. Upon arriving at the location, officers reportedly found Oluchi in the company of a man believed to be her lover.
A source disclosed that Oluchi’s husband was subsequently invited to the police station and informed of the discovery. The source further claimed that she appealed to her husband not to disclose the true circumstances of the incident to their children.
Reacting in an emotional video shared online, Oluchi’s daughter, Anita, expressed disbelief and disappointment over the development, describing the revelation as deeply painful for the family.
She clarified that no ransom payment was made and assured donors that all funds raised during the appeal remained untouched and would be refunded.
Anita also stated that police investigations indicated the alleged kidnapping was linked to her mother’s relationship with the suspect and had been deliberately orchestrated.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the case, while investigations are ongoing.
