Residents of the Sabon Gari area of Kano have been left in shock following the sudden death of a married woman and mother of five at the home of a male acquaintance.

The woman, identified as Sandra, who was said to be from Abia State, was found unresponsive on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at a residence on Aitken Road in the bustling Sabon Gari district.

Neighbours described the incident as both tragic and unsettling. Some claimed that, shortly before her death, Sandra had asked for food, and that the man she was visiting had stepped out to get something for her when the incident occurred. These accounts, however, have not been officially confirmed.

The Kano State Police Command has since confirmed the incident and the arrest of the man in whose residence the woman was found.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the case was first reported by a resident, Chidera Nwobi, who alerted authorities after discovering the woman lying motionless on a bed inside his neighbour’s room.

Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene. Preliminary observations revealed no visible signs of violence on the victim’s body.

She was subsequently taken to the Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

For residents of the close-knit neighbourhood, the incident has left behind a sense of unease and unanswered questions, particularly given the absence of any obvious signs of foul play.
