Authorities in Ghana have arrested a suspect identified as Ebenezer Frimpong after he allegedly stole a police armoured vehicle in Nkawie, located in the Ashanti Region.
The incident reportedly occurred when a police officer temporarily left the armoured vehicle unattended with the engine running near the Nkawie–Kumasi corridor.
The suspect is said to have taken advantage of the brief absence, driving off before being tracked and intercepted by a coordinated police response team.
Security officials confirmed that the vehicle was recovered intact following a swift pursuit operation, while the suspect was taken into custody for interrogation.
The episode highlights vulnerabilities in asset control procedures, particularly during vehicle transfer and maintenance operations.
Although the successful recovery demonstrates effective rapid response capability, the breach underscores the need for stricter internal protocols to prevent opportunistic theft and safeguard high-value security equipment.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether negligence contributed to the incident.
