Tragedy struck in Supare-Akoko, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, as a middle-aged man identified simply as Ife allegedly killed his mother in a shocking incident that has left residents in disbelief.

The victim, said to be a health officer, was reportedly attacked in her residence on Thursday afternoon under circumstances that are still being investigated.

According to sources within the community, the suspect was earlier seen holding a stick, which raised suspicion among residents. When questioned about the object, he reportedly dismissed concerns, claiming he intended to use it for cooking.

“People saw him earlier and asked what he wanted to use it for, but he said he wanted to cook. Sadly, we later heard that his mother had only returned home briefly when the incident happened,” a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

Further accounts from locals suggest that the suspect had previously displayed violent behaviour towards the deceased, raising concerns that the attack may not have been entirely unexpected.

When reporters visited the area, residents were seen gathered in small groups, discussing the incident in hushed tones, as shock and grief gripped the community.

Another resident disclosed that operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, had arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. The corpse of the deceased was also evacuated by the operatives.

“The boy is known for taking hard drugs. Amotekun has taken him into custody,” the resident added.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from relevant authorities were still ongoing.

The incident has once again raised concerns over rising cases of drug abuse and violence in parts of Ondo State, with residents calling for urgent intervention to curb the trend.
