Ibadan, Oyo State – June 4, 2026 – Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has addressed the nation regarding the ongoing efforts to rescue the teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area. During a critical meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), led by Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Abubakar Suleh, the governor called for patience and support from the public as efforts intensify to secure the safe return of the abductees.
Governor Makinde expressed deep concern for the families affected by the abductions, which occurred on May 15, 2026. He reassured the public that the state government, alongside the NAF, is committed to ensuring the safe recovery of the kidnapped individuals.
“I understand the distress this situation has caused, and I urge all Nigerians to remain patient as we work diligently to bring our teachers and children back home,” the governor stated. He expressed gratitude for the support received from the Nigerian Air Force, highlighting their cooperation in the ongoing rescue operations.
The governor noted that the two Diamond-42 Surveillance Aircraft purchased by the state government are currently being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos. In the interim, the Air Force has provided a Diamond-42 Aircraft to assist with surveillance efforts, allowing the government to access real-time information crucial for the rescue operation.
“While the ground troops face significant challenges, I want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to resolve this situation. Patience is essential as we aim for a successful outcome,” Governor Makinde added.
He commended the Chief of Air Staff and the officers of the NAF for their unwavering dedication to supporting the state in this critical time. The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship between the military and the civilian population, noting ongoing projects to enhance Air Force facilities in the state.
Air Vice Marshal Suleh, who led the NAF delegation, conveyed the Chief of Air Staff’s apologies for not being present due to another urgent national assignment. He expressed condolences for the families affected by the kidnappings and assured the governor that the NAF would continue to provide their best services to expedite the resolution of the situation.
The meeting concluded with commitments to further collaboration, including plans for training and maintenance agreements for the newly acquired aircraft.
As the state government and Nigerian Air Force intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils, Governor Makinde’s direct engagement with the public serves as a reminder of the community’s resilience and determination in times of crisis.
