Football legend Lionel Messi has openly admitted that not learning English earlier in life is one of his biggest personal regrets.
The 38-year-old Argentina captain made the revelation during the Miro de Atras podcast, reflecting on the challenges he has faced communicating in professional and social settings outside the football pitch.
Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer, explained that while he had the chance to study English during his youth, he prioritized football instead. “I deeply regret it. I experienced situations where I was with incredible, amazing personalities and you feel kind of ignorant,” he said.
The Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona legend emphasized that this regret has shaped how he approaches personal development today, encouraging his children to balance education with sport. Messi’s candid admission offers a rare glimpse into the personal side of one of football’s greatest figures.
