The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has reminded all employers in the state that the deadline for submitting annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year is January 31, 2026.
In a statement on Thursday, LIRS Executive Chairman Dr Ayodele Subair said the filing of annual returns is a legal requirement under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. Employers are expected to provide detailed reports on salaries, emoluments, and payments made to service providers, vendors, and consultants, and ensure that all taxes due for the year are fully remitted. He warned that failure to comply would attract statutory penalties.
Dr Subair explained that Section 14 of the NTAA mandates employers to submit annual returns of all employee payments, including taxes deducted and remitted, by the January 31 deadline each year. He urged employers to make timely filing a priority, highlighting that early and accurate submission supports legal compliance and aids Lagos State’s fiscal planning.
He also noted that only electronic submissions via the LIRS eTax platform are accepted, as manual filings have been phased out. The platform is designed to be secure, accessible around the clock, and user-friendly. Employers are required to ensure all employees’ Tax Identification Numbers are correctly captured, and those without a TaxID must generate one promptly to avoid delays.
For assistance, employers can visit any LIRS office or contact the agency through its support channels.
