A University of Cape Coast (UCC) Level 200 student, Vicencia Avinu, has been found dead near a shoreline in Cape Coast, Ghana, days after she was reported missing following plans to meet a man she described to friends as a “rich guy.”
Ghana’s Authorities say investigations have been launched into the circumstances surrounding her death after her body was discovered on Saturday along the Cape Coast shoreline, sparking shock across the university community.
According to information gathered from family and student sources on Monday, Vicencia was last seen on Thursday after informing friends she was heading out to meet the said individual. She failed to return home, and repeated attempts by friends and acquaintances to reach her on phone proved unsuccessful.
By Friday, after growing concern and unsuccessful search efforts, her family officially declared her missing.
Her remains were later discovered on Saturday near the shoreline in Cape Coast. Police have confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to her death and whether she had contact with any other individuals prior to the incident.
Authorities have not released further forensic findings at this stage, and no arrests have been made.
The incident has left students and members of the UCC community in shock, with renewed conversations around personal safety and caution in social interactions, particularly involving unfamiliar contacts.
Police say they are prioritizing the case and have urged anyone with relevant information to assist ongoing investigations.
