A new wave of fear has struck the Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State following an invasion by suspected terrorists early Sunday morning, resulting in the abduction of four residents.
Local reports indicate that the assailants entered the community in the morning, firing shots indiscriminately before taking four villagers away to an unknown location. This incident occurred just a day after a violent confrontation on Gamji Road in Gbugbu, where armed bandits ambushed vigilantes and security personnel at a checkpoint.
A source close to the situation revealed that the ambush on Saturday left at least one army officer injured from a gunshot wound to the leg, while a vigilante sustained a serious head injury. Both injured individuals were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Residents are increasingly alarmed by the escalating insecurity in Kwara North and Kwara South, reporting a surge in kidnappings and armed attacks in recent months.
Earlier, Sahara Reporters disclosed that suspected Boko Haram militants, also known as Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, released a troubling video featuring 176 individuals they claimed to have abducted from the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In the video, women and children were shown lined up under dire conditions. Some captives, speaking in Hausa, confirmed they were taken from Woro. The terrorists accused the Kwara State government of minimizing the number of abductees, asserting that they were holding 176 individuals, contrary to the lower figures reported.
The resurgence of these attacks has heightened concerns among residents, prompting many to urge authorities to intensify efforts to address the escalating security crisis in the state.
