Tragedy struck in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following the shocking death of a 29-year-old graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, whose body was allegedly discovered inside a canal in the Jikwoyi area after she mysteriously went missing.
Blessing, a Sociology graduate, was reportedly murdered under circumstances that have left her family and residents in deep shock. Her body was later found dumped in a canal, days after she was last seen leaving her family residence.
According to information gathered by Starnews NG, the deceased had stepped out of the house on Thursday night after receiving a phone call. Family members initially believed she had gone out briefly and expected her return, but concern grew after hours passed without any communication.
Speaking on the tragic development, Blessing’s sister, Abigail Moshood, explained that the deceased left home around 8pm after speaking with an unidentified person over the phone.
She revealed that about an hour later, Blessing contacted the family and informed them that she had forgotten her phone charger at home and would return briefly to pick it up.
However, anxiety reportedly set in when the family could no longer reach her and she failed to return home the following day.
According to Abigail, the heartbreaking reality unfolded after residents began discussing the discovery of a woman’s body in a canal.
“We later heard people talking about a woman found inside a canal and someone mentioned the hairstyle she had on. It matched my sister’s hairstyle,” she said.
“My mother became distressed immediately. We later learnt officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the body to a mortuary in Mararaba. She was found half-naked with only a top on,” she added.
Abigail further disclosed that she later visited the police station, where officers showed her photographs of the recovered body, confirming it was her missing sister.
The tragic incident has thrown residents of the community into mourning, with many describing Blessing as intelligent, calm and respectful.
A neighbour identified as Margaret said the deceased was admired for her humility and dedication to education.
“I learnt she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology. She was brilliant and very respectful. Everyone around here liked her,” she said.
Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, called on security agencies to intensify surveillance around the Jikwoyi axis, especially around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre area, which he claimed had become a hotspot for criminal activities.
He urged security operatives to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure those behind the killing are arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, a police source at the Jikwoyi Police Station confirmed that the matter is under investigation, while the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, assured that efforts were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
