The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter, has suspended its industrial action following the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to its members by the Ondo State Government.
The decision comes less than 24 hours after workers of the state-owned institution began receiving their unpaid salaries through the ₦1.1 billion intervention fund recently approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Chairman of AAUA-ASUU, Prof. Bolu Oshodi, said the union resolved to suspend the strike after lecturers received their outstanding salaries for May and June.
“The strike has been suspended because our members have now been paid the outstanding salaries for May and June. As a union, we always suspend industrial action once the issues that prompted it are addressed,” Oshodi said.
He, however, urged the Ondo State Government to ensure consistent funding of the university and prompt payment of salaries to prevent future industrial disputes and guarantee uninterrupted academic activities.
The suspension follows the state government’s recent release of ₦1.1 billion as a special intervention fund to offset salary arrears at the institution.
