Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that older practitioners initially feared the emergence of social media would push them completely out of the entertainment business.
Kosoko made the disclosure in an interview with Punch’s Sunday Scoop, published on Sunday, September 27, 2026, while reflecting on how the industry adapted to the rapid rise of digital platforms.
“When social media came, we were afraid. Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely?” Kosoko said.
The veteran actor explained that many older practitioners eventually adapted with the help of younger colleagues who were more computer literate.
According to him, social media later became an advantage rather than the threat they initially feared.
“We eventually used it to our advantage, so we have to thank God for that,” he added.
Kosoko, however, said the emergence of artificial intelligence presents another technological challenge, admitting that he still does not fully understand AI.
His comments highlight the continuing transformation of Nollywood and the need for established practitioners to adapt as new technologies reshape the creative industry.
