In the wake of escalating international tensions following the recent U.S. military invasion of Venezuela, activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has taken to social media to express his discontent with the United Nations.
In a tweet posted on Sunday, Starnews NG reports that Sowore stated, “I repeat, it is time to abolish the @UN of jokers. Serious nations of the world should withdraw legitimacy from this hollow institution and boycott the next United Nations General Assembly #UNGA.”
His remarks come amid a backdrop of significant global unrest, particularly regarding the situation in Venezuela, where U.S. forces recently conducted military operations that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
The invasion has sparked widespread condemnation from various nations and organisations, with critics arguing that it represents a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of Venezuela.
Sowore’s comments reflect a growing frustration among some leaders and activists who believe that the UN has failed to address critical issues such as aggression, impunity, and humanitarian crises around the world.
He further asserted, “An organization that cannot stop impunity, aggression, or mass suffering has outlived its purpose”, Sowore added.
Starnews NG can report that a lot of World leaders feel that the UN has not effectively fulfilled its mandate to promote peace and security, particularly in light of recent events in Venezuela that have drawn stark criticisms of U.S. interventionism.
Sowore’s call for serious nations to reconsider their relationship with the UN underscores a broader demand for reform within international institutions that are perceived to be ineffective in addressing pressing global challenges.
Sowore’s statements serve as a reminder of the ongoing discourse regarding the role and efficacy of the United Nations in today’s geopolitical landscape.
