Alleged militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly launched an attack on the Garahamojili military base of the Nigerian Army in Adamawa State, resulting in the deaths of at least two soldiers during an intense gunfight.
Reports indicate that the insurgents initiated the assault on Sunday, engaging the troops in a 20-minute exchange of fire before taking control of the area.
Two soldiers have been confirmed dead from the attack, and an unknown number of others are thought to have been injured.
The attackers are said to have set parts of the camp on fire, destroying buildings and burning three military vehicles stationed there.
They also reportedly took weapons and ammunition before retreating to unknown locations.
The Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement regarding the attack or provide additional information on casualties and damage.
Adamawa State, which borders Borno State—the heart of Nigeria’s insurgency—has faced sporadic attacks in recent months.
