Iran’s negotiating team has arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, for high-level peace talks with the United States, marking a critical diplomatic moment in efforts to stabilise a fragile ceasefire after weeks of conflict. However, uncertainty still hangs over the negotiations as Tehran continues to insist on key preconditions before fully engaging.
This development was reported on April 11, 2026, as Iranian officials landed in Islamabad on Friday, while maintaining that issues such as the lifting of sanctions, release of frozen assets, and conditions tied to the Lebanon conflict must be addressed first before meaningful negotiations proceed.
The talks, hosted in Islamabad through Pakistani mediation, represent one of the highest-level engagements between Washington and Tehran in years. The United States delegation is expected to push for a lasting ceasefire framework, while Iran is seeking guarantees on economic relief and regional security arrangements.
Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, the atmosphere remains tense. Reports indicate disagreements over the scope of the ceasefire and continued hostilities in Lebanon are casting doubt on whether the talks will move beyond preliminary discussions.
Pakistan’s role as mediator has placed it at the centre of global attention, as both sides attempt to test whether diplomacy can succeed where military confrontation has escalated.
