The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is currently attending a quarterly consultative meeting with political parties organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Accompanying Wike are the National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Also in attendance at the meeting, taking place at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, are the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, along with other political party leaders.
A video obtained by journalists shows that the Commission has assigned specific seats for Wike’s team, with Mohammed in the chair designated for the “PDP Chairman” and Anyanwu seated directly behind him in the position marked for the “PDP National Secretary.”
Reporters notes that the situation follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan on January 30, which invalidated the PDP National Convention that took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.
Justice Uche Agomoh, who presided over the case, prohibited members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from claiming to be national officers of the PDP.
The judge stated that the November convention was conducted in clear violation of court orders, emphasizing that the PDP cannot ignore judicial directives while seeking legal validation for actions taken against those orders.
The ruling specified that the PDP must operate under a caretaker committee until a legitimate national convention is held.
The Turaki-led faction had previously filed a lawsuit to gain recognition for the November convention and to validate the NWC members elected during that event.
With the court’s decision and INEC’s acknowledgment, Wike’s faction now appears to dominate the national operations of the party.
Nyesom Wike is one of the powerful ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet and a former governor of Rivers state.
