INEC Debunks Viral Claim on March 26 Resignation Deadline for Political Aspirants

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a viral graphic circulating online claiming that the commission fixed March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective offices to resign from their positions.

In a public notice on Friday, the electoral body clarified that it did not issue any such announcement and described the circulating graphic as fake and misleading.

INEC said the message did not originate from the commission and urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the information entirely.

The commission further emphasised that all official announcements and updates regarding elections are released only through its verified communication channels.

According to INEC, these include its official website, verified social media platforms, and formal press releases issued by the commission.

The electoral body therefore advised citizens to verify election-related information through these official channels before sharing or acting on such content.

INEC also warned that the spread of unverified information could mislead the public and create confusion about electoral processes.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely, and transparent information to Nigerians regarding electoral matters.
