The Imo State Police Command has ordered the immediate detention of four security personnel captured in a viral video allegedly showing a young man being forced into the boot of a vehicle in Nekede, Owerri.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2026, along Human Race Road, Nekede, during a police operation at a suspected drug-trafficking location.
Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said preliminary findings showed that the personnel comprised two police officers attached to the Nekede Divisional Headquarters and two Supernumerary Police Officers.
The command said two suspects were arrested during the operation, with substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa recovered from one of them.
However, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, condemned the manner in which one suspect was forced into the vehicle boot, describing the conduct as unacceptable, inhumane and contrary to police operational standards.
The four personnel have been detained, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed and impartial investigation.
The command said disciplinary procedures have commenced and the outcome will be made public.
