Abia State Governor Alex Otti has dismissed reports of a political rift between him and former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, declaring that he is not fighting Obi or any other politician.
Otti made the clarification in an interview with Arise Television aired on Friday, September 25, 2026, while responding to questions about Obi’s political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said Obi would be allowed to campaign freely in Abia if he chooses to visit the state, adding that the same applies to other presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate.
“Peter Obi and I are not fighting,” Otti said, stressing that anybody who wants to campaign in Abia would be permitted to do so.
He added that Atiku and other candidates would receive the same treatment, describing such access as part of the democratic process.
Otti’s comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections and renewed public discussion about his relationship with Obi.
The governor also said he does not intend to seek another elective office after completing his tenure, ruling out a future presidential, senatorial or local government chairmanship bid. He said he plans to retire from politics after completing his tenure.
His latest comments therefore place the emphasis on political openness rather than confrontation: Otti says Abia remains open to rival presidential campaigns, even as political alignments intensify ahead of 2027.
