Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai has been thrust deeper into a high‑stakes national security and corruption investigation after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) disclosed it recovered electronic devices allegedly capable of intercepting private communications from his residence in the Asokoro district of Abuja. The revelation was made this Monday, 2 March 2026, in legal filings the anti‑graft agency submitted to the High Court of Justice of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of its defence against a suit by El‑Rufai challenging his detention.
According to the ICPC, a search conducted on 19 February 2026 under a warrant from a Magistrate Court in Bwari, FCT, led to the recovery of magnetic and electronic equipment believed capable of tapping conversations and sensitive security documents. The commission said the search was witnessed by El‑Rufai’s wife, Hadiza Isma El‑Rufai, and his son, Mohammed Bello El‑Rufai, and that the former governor refused to grant consent for investigators to access the recovered devices.
The anti‑graft body also revealed that one of El‑Rufai’s aides linked to the case has reportedly fled the country and said it intends to extend his detention order (valid for 14 days) to conclude ongoing investigations. El‑Rufai’s lawyers are simultaneously arguing in court that the search and seizure were unlawful and violated his constitutional rights.
