On Thursday, the residential house of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, was searched by the officers of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). According to them, the search was done as a part of an ongoing investigation.
This was said in a statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, the media advisor of the former governor. He affirmed the search by the officers of ICPC at the residence of El-Rufai.
The lawyer of El-Rufai, Ubong Akpan, added that the search was unlawful. He condemned the move and said that it was against the law and had violated the fundamental rights of his client.
The search is done as investigators continue to investigate allegations that El‑Rufai misappropriated funds when he served as a governor to Kaduna State.
It is reported that the former governor was taken into custody by ICPC since Wednesday night when he was released by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on administrative bail.
Upon this report, the ICPC had not issued a detailed statement regarding the charges that pertained to the search.
