I Will Never Marry — Tyler Perry Rules Out Marriage, Cites Divorce Consequences

By Paul Joseph

Hollywood actor, filmmaker and entertainment mogul Tyler Perry has declared that he has no plans to get married, saying the risks associated with divorce have influenced his decision.

The 57-year-old star, who has never been married, made the disclosure while appearing as a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show during the promotion of his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again?

Perry said his decision was not because he does not believe in love, but because he is concerned about the financial and legal consequences that can accompany divorce.

“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” Perry said.

The filmmaker added that advancing age has also changed his priorities, with more emphasis now on spending quality time with his family and enjoying life away from the intense demands of Hollywood.

“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” he said.

Perry has an 11-year-old son, Aman, with his former partner, Gelila Bekele. The pair were in a relationship from 2009 until 2020.

The entertainment mogul also revealed plans to relocate to Puerto Rico with his son at the beginning of 2027, saying he intends to significantly reduce his workload in Hollywood.

His comments came as he promotes Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third instalment of the film franchise, which has explored themes including marriage, infidelity and divorce since its launch in 2007.

Despite ruling out marriage for himself, Perry stressed that he still believes in love and companionship, but does not see a legal marriage contract as something he wants at this stage of his life.
