How General Oseni Braimah Was Killed in Borno Attack

The death of Oseni Omoh Braimah has been confirmed by the Nigerian military following a fierce insurgent assault in northeastern Nigeria. Contrary to speculation, he was not a victim of internal conflict but died in active combat while defending a military formation. Reports indicate that heavily armed insurgents launched a coordinated overnight attack on a key base in Benisheikh, Borno State, targeting troops under Operation HADIN KAI.

On April 9, 2026, the Nigerian Army disclosed that Brigadier General Braimah, who commanded the 29 Task Force Brigade, led his troops in resisting the attackers.

The insurgents (linked to groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP) attempted to overrun the base but were eventually repelled after intense fighting. Despite the successful defense, Braimah and several soldiers “paid the supreme price” in the line of duty.

The military described the attack as a desperate counteroffensive by weakened terrorist elements, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the fallen general’s bravery.

The incident underscores the persistent security crisis in Nigeria’s northeast, where insurgent groups continue to test military resilience despite sustained operations against them.
