Hoodlums Attack Amotekun in Osun, Cart Away Weapons

By George Omagbemi Sylvester

Suspected hoodlums have launched a violent attack on operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, overpowering personnel and carting away weapons in what authorities describe as a serious threat to regional security. The incident, reported on March 24, 2026, occurred during an operation in a local community where the security outfit had been deployed to maintain order.

According to reports, the assailants ambushed the operatives, inflicted injuries, and forcibly seized their weapons before fleeing the scene. The attack highlights a growing pattern of confrontations between armed groups and local security agencies in Nigeria’s South-West region.

The Amotekun Corps, established in 2020 to support conventional security forces in tackling crime, has increasingly come under pressure from criminal elements. Amotekun Corps plays a critical role in combating banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence across the region.

Security experts warn that such incidents not only undermine public safety but also embolden criminal networks. The Osun State authorities have since vowed to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons, while reinforcing the need for stronger coordination among security agencies.
