‘He’s Running After His Father’: Tinubu Speaks on Seyi’s Political Ambition

By George Omagbemi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has spoken about his son Seyi Tinubu’s political activities, saying he is following his father’s political cause rather than pursuing a specific political office.

Tinubu made the remarks on Monday during an event organised by the City Boy Movement in Abuja, where he praised Seyi for mobilising young Nigerians and encouraging them to participate in political activities.

The President said he had received calls from people asking what his son intended to contest for, given his growing involvement in political mobilisation.

“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.

He commended Seyi and members of the movement for reaching out to young people, listening to their concerns and organising them without demanding political titles or government appointments.

The President said he was proud of the initiative and urged the group to continue its activities.

Seyi Tinubu has become increasingly visible in political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly through the City Boy Movement, which has been associated with efforts to build support for his father’s re-election campaign.

Tinubu’s remarks have drawn attention amid public debate over the role of family members in political mobilisation and whether Seyi intends to seek elective office in the future.

However, the President’s statement did not announce a specific political position or confirm that his son would contest an election. Instead, he described Seyi’s activities as support for his own political cause.

The development adds another dimension to discussions surrounding the President’s re-election bid and the involvement of younger political organisers in the 2027 campaign.
