A Hausa trader at Ogbe-Ijoh Market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State has reportedly returned the savings of a deceased deaf and mute man after news of his death spread among traders at the market.
According to reports accompanying a video circulating online, the deceased had been keeping his daily earnings with the Hausa trader for safekeeping over a period of time.
Following the man’s death, the trader reportedly brought out the money he had been keeping and returned it to those entitled to receive it.
A video from the market shows traders and other members of the community counting substantial bundles of naira notes, apparently representing the deceased man’s accumulated savings.
The development reportedly surprised people at the market, particularly because the deceased was said to have accumulated the savings gradually from his daily activities.
The Hausa trader’s decision to return the money has also attracted attention online, with many viewers praising the act of honesty and trust.
However, the identity of the deceased, the exact amount of money returned and the final recipient of the funds have not been independently confirmed.
Reports also contain varying descriptions of the deceased, with some describing him as a trader and others referring to his daily activities differently.
The incident has nevertheless generated discussion about trust, integrity and the responsibility involved when individuals keep money or other valuables belonging to others.
For now, the circulating video and reports provide evidence of the money being counted and returned, but further details would be needed to independently establish the full circumstances of the transaction.
