Gunmen have killed a police inspector and two civilians during a deadly ambush on a patrol team in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, heightening concerns over insecurity in the area.
The attack occurred on Saturday, December 14, 2025, at about 6:30 p.m., along Ajimaka Village Road on the route to Rukubi town, according to security sources.
The patrol team, attached to Operation Restore Peace and led by Inspector Jampi Mbursa, was said to be carrying out a routine patrol alongside local vigilante members when it was ambushed by unidentified armed men.
A counter-insurgency report by Zagazola Makama said the assailants opened fire on the patrol team at close range, killing Inspector Mbursa and two civilians identified as Julius Igbogh and Raphael Julius, both residents of Ajimaka Village.
Sources disclosed that the attackers also carted away the inspector’s AK-47 rifle, reportedly loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, before fleeing the scene.
The victims were rushed to Rukubi General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to track down the attackers, recover the stolen firearm, and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
The incident adds to growing security challenges in parts of Nasarawa State, where attacks on security personnel and civilians have continued to raise alarm among residents and stakeholders.
