Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the payment of the first phase of the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries. The intervention was announced on Tuesday, July 29, 2026, by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Justice Okechukwu Martins, popularly known as JMartins.
According to JMartins, Governor Otti responded promptly after learning of the actress’s health challenges by approving the initial tranche of funding for her treatment. While expressing gratitude to the governor, he noted that the approved support covers only part of the total medical expenses and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting the actress financially.
Ngozi Nwosu, a respected Nollywood veteran and Abia indigene, recently disclosed that she requires three major surgeries and needs about ₦30 million to fund her treatment.
Her appeal drew widespread sympathy from colleagues, fans and members of the public after she revealed that she had been hospitalised for weeks while battling an undisclosed illness.
The governor’s intervention has been widely welcomed by members of the entertainment industry, who described it as a timely demonstration of compassion and support for one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses.
However, stakeholders have continued to encourage public donations to ensure Nwosu receives the remaining medical care required for her full recovery
