The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital has described the ongoing industrial action by some members of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals as unwarranted, warning that the strike is endangering patients and disrupting critical healthcare services.
In a statement issued by the hospital’s Head of Public Relations Unit, Tope Fayehun, management expressed concern that the strike has created a serious diagnostic bottleneck affecting laboratory services and other clinical departments that depend on timely investigations for disease diagnosis and emergency treatment.
The hospital warned that prolonged disruption could compromise patient safety and healthcare delivery.
According to the management, administrative decisions that triggered the dispute were implemented in line with public service regulations, government circulars, and approved schemes of service following the institution’s transition into a federal teaching hospital.
The hospital also stated that previous engagements with union representatives had produced 23 resolutions aimed at promoting industrial harmony and improving service delivery.
While appealing to the union to return to dialogue, FUTATH assured patients and the public that contingency measures have been put in place to reduce disruptions and maintain essential medical services.
The management reiterated its commitment to quality healthcare, institutional accountability, and the welfare of patients despite the ongoing industrial dispute.
