Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing ongoing infrastructure projects across the state despite recent political developments surrounding his administration.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection tour of the ongoing Airport Road Bypass project in Port Harcourt, where he disclosed that the road had reached 65 per cent completion.
Fubara’s remarks come barely two days after he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Rivers State, effectively stepping away from the 2026 governorship race.
Speaking during the inspection, the governor said his administration remains focused on governance and delivering projects that would positively impact residents of the state.
“I want to assure our people that notwithstanding the situation of things, every good work that we have started, by the special grace of God, will continue and we will complete them. We’re in high spirits. Like we always say, Rivers First,” Fubara stated.
In a statement issued after the inspection by his spokesman, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor explained that the Airport Road Bypass was conceived to provide an alternative route for communities around the airport and reduce disruptions caused by protests along the main airport road.
According to him, repeated blockades of the airport road by aggrieved community members had negatively affected economic activities in the state.
“We’ve always had these issues where the community may want to express their anger or dissatisfaction over some activities of the airport authorities, and in the process they block the airport road.
“We thought that in this modern society, such actions are not necessary anymore because whenever it happens, it affects the economic activities of the state. So we liaised with the community and created this bypass,” he explained.
Fubara, who was conducted round the project site by contractors handling the road construction, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured residents that the project would be completed before October 2026.
