At least 15 people have been killed in separate attacks by suspected terrorists across three local government areas of Plateau State, with nine passengers reportedly among those killed while travelling to Jos.
The attacks occurred on Sunday night in Dungus community in Jos South Local Government Area, as well as communities in Mangu and Riyom LGAs.
Nine passengers were reportedly killed after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle at Dungus while they were travelling towards Jos.
The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the attack occurred at about 9:40 p.m.
He said some passengers who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to hospitals, where some later died.
According to Tengwong, one of those killed was a member of Operation Rainbow, describing the incident as a painful loss to the community.
A resident, Musa Dauda, also confirmed that some of the injured victims died while receiving treatment, while others remained hospitalised.
In a separate attack in Mangu Local Government Area, suspected terrorists reportedly invaded Vodni in Pushit District, killing two people.
Four other residents sustained gunshot injuries and were receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu town.
Two additional people were reportedly killed at Tahoos in Riyom Local Government Area during another attack around the same period.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Plateau State, particularly communities experiencing recurring attacks.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command spokesman, Alabo Alfred, and the Media Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Chinonso Oteh, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
