Former American NFL linebacker star Darron Lee on Friday 7th February has been accused of murdering his girlfriend.
On Thursday, police were called to a home near Chattanooga, Tennessee United States of America..
Attempts to save a woman were made, but she was already dead.
Lee, 31, was named as the suspect and taken into custody. He was charged on Friday with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
He is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
According to a statement from the Hamilton County sheriff’s office, initial findings suggest the woman’s death was a homicide.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of her family.
Lee, who was a first-round draft pick for the New York Jets in 2016, last played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills in 2020.
His four-year contract with the Jets was terminated a year early in 2019 due to disciplinary issues and underperformance.
He was part of the Kansas City Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in 2020, although he did not play in the game.
Lee signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in June 2021 but did not see any game action before being released two months later.
In 2023, Lee was arrested for assault and domestic violence. The arrest report indicated that he pushed a woman against the wall, threw her to the ground, and struck her face and head multiple times with his fists
