The Confederation of African Football has granted the Nigeria Football Federation’s request to change the venue for the first leg of the third round qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup between Nigeria and Senegal, which is set for Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Ruth David, the NFF’s Director of Competitions, announced that the match will now take place at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
The venue change was prompted by concerns over the poor condition of the playing surface at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, which had originally been designated for the match and previously hosted the Falconets’ second round, second leg against the Rwanda U20 team last September.
As a result of this change, the two-time FIFA World silver medalists, who have been training in Ibadan, are expected to move to Abeokuta in the coming days to acclimate to the MKO Abiola Sports Complex’s field.
The Falconets secured their spot in the third round of the African qualification series by defeating Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate.
The winner of the Nigeria-Senegal match will advance to the final round, where they will face the winner of the Guinea Bissau vs. Malawi matchup for a chance to compete in the final tournament scheduled for September 5-27, 2026, in Poland.
