FIFA has announced that players and members of the winning team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive championship rings for the first time in the tournament’s history, introducing a new tradition to commemorate football’s biggest prize.
The historic initiative, unveiled ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, is designed to provide players, coaches and selected members of the victorious delegation with a lasting symbol of their achievement, similar to championship rings awarded in major North American sports such as the NFL, NBA and MLB.
According to FIFA, the rings will complement (not replace) the traditional World Cup winners’ medals, serving as an additional keepsake to celebrate the champions’ success.
The governing body said the move reflects its commitment to modernising the tournament while preserving the prestige and heritage of the FIFA World Cup.
The inaugural championship rings will be presented to the winners following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, where football history will be made once again.
The introduction of the rings has generated excitement among football fans and stakeholders, with many describing the initiative as a fitting way to honour the achievements of the world’s best football team on the sport’s grandest stage.
