The Federal Government plans to present suspects associated with the recent killings in Yelwata, Benue State, on Monday.
This information was shared in a statement by Kamarudeen Ogundele, the Senior Assistant (Communication and Publicity) to the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.
The ministry indicated that the suspects would appear before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik at the Federal High Court in Abuja on February 2. Mr. Fagbemi reassured Nigerians that justice would be served in this case to send a strong message to those who threaten the country, regardless of their disguise.
He remarked, “This follows a thorough investigation and collaboration among government agencies.
The administration of President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, as outlined in the constitution.”
It is worth noting that in July of last year, gunmen attacked the Yelwata community, resulting in the deaths of several villagers in coordinated assaults that sparked significant outrage and condemnation.
