ABUJA — September 29, 2026: The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks authorised for use in Nigerian schools from 2026 to 2028, covering four class levels in the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
The approved list covers Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1), with each approved textbook assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code.
According to the ministry, the codes carry key information including the textbook title, author, publisher and year of publication, and are designed to strengthen identification, monitoring and accountability in the selection and use of instructional materials.
The ministry said the ranking exercise is being implemented in phases. The second phase will cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS2 and SS2, with the same tracking system expected to apply.
Publishers, schools, education authorities and procurement agencies have been directed to consult the official approved list before selecting or purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
The Federal Government said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that textbooks used in schools are relevant, quality-assured and aligned with the approved curriculum.
