The Federal Government has approved a revised salary structure alongside an enhanced Condition of Service for staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), marking a significant development for the agency’s workforce.
The approval was conveyed in an official communication from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Tuesday.
Dated April 29, 2026, and signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary (General Services), on behalf of the SGF, the letter confirmed the implementation of a consolidated salary structure for NiMet, effective June 1, 2026.
The correspondence, titled “Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)”, also approved a revised Condition of Service for the agency’s staff.
According to the letter, the new structure aligns with recommendations submitted by the relevant authorities and is aimed at improving staff welfare and operational efficiency within the agency.
Reacting to the development, a staff member of NiMet, who spoke anonymously due to lack of authorisation, commended the agency’s management under the leadership of Professor Charles Anosike.
The staff member described the approval as a major milestone, noting that the improved salary structure and updated service conditions would have a positive and lasting impact on employees’ welfare and morale.
The development is expected to boost productivity and enhance service delivery at the agency, which plays a critical role in weather forecasting and climate monitoring across the country.
