Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu approved his redeployment as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa after an earlier posting to Germany.
The announcement was made on May 7, 2026, with Fani-Kayode stating that he formally requested a transfer from Germany to South Africa for personal reasons and because of his interest in serving in the country.
According to him, the request was approved by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and subsequently endorsed by President Tinubu.
Fani-Kayode also denied reports claiming that Germany rejected his appointment, describing such reports as false and misleading. He explained that the redeployment involved a swap arrangement with Senator Sam Enang, who was initially posted to South Africa but agreed to move to Germany instead.
The former minister was initially among the ambassadorial nominees posted by the presidency in March 2026, where he had been assigned to Germany before the latest redeployment.
