The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), has declared that the Federal Government has successfully defeated terrorism in Nigeria, noting that attacks are no longer as frequent or brazen as they once were.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the Minister emphasized that security in the country has improved under the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He observed that large-scale attacks by groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP have significantly subsided.
When asked if the government had truly defeated terrorists or merely displaced them, the Minister responded: “Frankly speaking we have (defeated terrorists) because now… the attacks are not as rampant and it is now kidnapping.”
General Musa explained that the current security challenge has shifted toward kidnapping, which he described as a “social ill” used by criminals as a desperate means to raise money. He noted that the security trajectory has moved from terrorism and insurgency back toward criminality. The Minister added that military troops are actively entering the remaining enclaves of these groups to recover abducted individuals.
