The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.
The declaration was announced on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Federal Government said the decision reflects its respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world observing the Islamic festival.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in the country and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion towards humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the nation and seek divine guidance as the country continues efforts toward peace, security, and national prosperity.
The minister also called on citizens to embrace the values of brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the celebration.
The statement was dated May 25, 2026, and signed by Ajani on behalf of the Ministry of Interior.
