A claim that Kira Taiwo, daughter of late veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has welcomed a baby boy has triggered widespread reactions on social media, coming barely two days after her father was buried.
The claim gained traction on Wednesday after several blogs and social media accounts published reports that Kira had given birth, with some posts accompanied by photographs and hospital videos purportedly showing the new mother and her newborn.
However, StarnewsNG fact-check review finds that the reported birth has not been independently confirmed by Kira Taiwo or the Taiwo family.
The development was first reported by some online news platforms as a recent birth. Leadership, in a report published on Wednesday, described Kira as having “reportedly” welcomed a baby boy, while expressly acknowledging that the family had yet to confirm the news.
The same report said photographs of a newborn had surfaced on the social media account associated with Kira, but did not present a direct statement from her confirming that she had given birth.
Other publications have similarly reported the development but maintained that it was yet to receive official confirmation from the family.
Where the claim gets complicated
The controversy is not necessarily about whether Kira has ever had a child.
In February 2024, Kira, also known as Shakirat Taiwo, was publicly reported to have welcomed her first child, a baby boy.
At the time, her father, Ogogo, celebrated becoming a grandfather, while photographs of the newborn were shared publicly.
That previous childbirth is important because some of the hospital footage now circulating alongside the latest claim has been challenged by social media users as old footage from Kira’s earlier delivery.
One X user, @oreoluwa, directly challenged the material, writing: “You guys are irredeemable. This was when she gave birth to her first baby.”
Another user, @Beltboy, reacted angrily to the circulating material, alleging that “this is an old video.”
Those reactions do not, on their own, establish that the current baby-boy claim is false. But they raise a significant verification question: Are the videos being presented as evidence of a new birth actually from 2026, or are old images and videos being recycled to support a new claim?
What has actually been established?
There is evidence that photographs of a newborn have been circulated online in connection with Kira. Multiple reports published on August 26 said the images were being shared on social media.
But the crucial missing element is direct confirmation.
At the time of this report, there is no publicly cited statement from Kira Taiwo confirming the birth, nor has a member of the Taiwo family issued an official announcement confirming that she recently delivered a baby boy.
There has also been no prominent confirmation from the major Nollywood colleagues and contemporaries who publicly mourned Ogogo following his death.
That distinction matters because the fact that a photograph of a baby is circulating does not, by itself, establish when the baby was born, whose child it is, or whether the accompanying video is current.
Social media reaction: congratulations versus scepticism
The reaction on X has been sharply divided.
Some users immediately accepted the report and offered congratulations. One user, @Danlascrib, wrote: “Babatunde… Omoor CONGRATULATIONS.”
Another user, @Cleric Habeeblah, congratulated Kira and prayed for the child, writing: “Congratulations to Kira on the arrival of her baby boy!” The user also prayed that the newborn would be blessed with good health, wisdom and barakah.
But others questioned the authenticity of the material being circulated.
Apart from the allegation that the video was old, another X user simply reacted: “Allahu Akbar,” while others joined the wave of congratulatory messages without providing independent evidence of the reported birth.
The conflicting reactions demonstrate the problem with treating social media posts as confirmation of a sensitive personal event.
The 2024 connection
The strongest reason for caution is the documented history surrounding Kira’s first child.
Reports from February 2024 show that she had already welcomed a baby boy at the time, with her father publicly celebrating the arrival.
Consequently, any video from a hospital showing Kira with a newborn cannot automatically be treated as evidence that she has given birth again in August 2026.
A fact-check must establish the date, source and original context of such footage before using it to substantiate the new claim.

The claim that Kira Taiwo has recently welcomed a baby boy cannot presently be established as a confirmed fact based on the available evidence.
There are multiple reports claiming that she has given birth and photographs of a newborn have circulated online. However, the reports themselves acknowledge the absence of official family confirmation.
More importantly, some of the videos being circulated have been challenged by social media users as old footage from Kira’s previous childbirth, a claim that warrants further verification.
Therefore, it would be premature to report as established fact that Kira gave birth “days after” her father’s burial.
The appropriate description, pending a direct statement from Kira or her family, is that Kira Taiwo is the subject of an unverified report that she has welcomed a baby boy.
For now, the viral claim sits somewhere between a widely circulated report and a confirmed family announcement — and those are not the same thing.
Why the distinction matters
Recall that Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, aged 66, after battling stage-four cancer, and was buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, on August 24. His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and admirers across the Yoruba film industry.
Against that emotional backdrop, news of a new baby in the family naturally generated enormous interest, with many social media users describing the reported arrival as a moment of joy amid mourning.
