A routine bank visit turned into a life-threatening encounter for a Minna resident who says he came face-to-face with armed robbers moments after withdrawing ₦9 million from a bank in Niger State.
The incident occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, along Shiroro Road in Minna, when two gunmen allegedly trailed the customer from the bank to a nearby complex before launching their attack.
Recounting the ordeal during a church testimony on Sunday, March 8, the visibly emotional victim described the terrifying moments when the assailants confronted him, seized the cash, and attempted to escape with his vehicle.
“I had never handled a gun in my life,” he told the congregation. “But in that moment, all I could do was pray.”
According to his account, the situation quickly escalated when he resisted the attackers. In a desperate struggle, he said he managed to wrestle a rifle from one of the gunmen. Acting on instinct, he fired shots in a bid to stop the suspects from escaping.
During the exchange, several bullets reportedly struck his clothing and grazed his body. Remarkably, he survived the encounter without serious injury.
Although the suspects fled the scene with the money, the victim’s vehicle was later recovered, and a rifle believed to belong to one of the attackers was retrieved by police.
Authorities in Niger State have since confirmed the robbery. Police officials say investigations are underway as security operatives intensify efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The man’s gripping testimony has since circulated widely on social media, drawing reactions from Nigerians and reigniting conversations about public safety, banking-related robberies, and the need for stronger security measures around financial institutions.
For the victim, however, the experience remains deeply personal.
“It felt like my life could end at any moment,” he said quietly. “But somehow, I walked away alive.”
