Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified Ebola surveillance and health screening measures across the country’s international airports following renewed outbreak concerns in parts of Central Africa.
The agency assured travellers and stakeholders that robust preventive measures have been activated to safeguard public health and maintain safe airport operations.
FAAN disclosed that passengers arriving from high-risk regions are currently undergoing enhanced screening procedures for Ebola-related symptoms in collaboration with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant agencies.
The authority stated that any suspected case would be immediately isolated and subjected to secondary medical examination in line with national and international health protocols.
According to the agency, emergency response systems have also been reinforced, while staff sensitisation and inter-agency coordination have been strengthened to ensure rapid intervention where necessary.
FAAN emphasized that although there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, authorities remain vigilant due to the outbreak reported in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Health experts say the renewed airport surveillance reflects growing regional concerns over the possible cross-border spread of Ebola and the importance of early detection, strict monitoring, and coordinated public health response systems in preventing outbreaks.
