Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and others will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the ruling on their bail application slated for January 7.
Justice Nwite fixed the date after counsel to the parties argued for and against the bail application.
Malami, alongside his son, Abdullaziz, and Asabe Bashir, is standing trial over allegations of fraud.
Meanwhile, before the commencement of proceedings on Friday, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS, reportedly clashed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, over security arrangements for the trial.
The disagreement arose over which of the two agencies should be in charge of security during the proceedings involving the former minister. It was gathered that officials of both agencies threatened to shoot each other over who should take control of security at the court’s entrance.
It would be recalled that on December 30, the court ordered Malami’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre till January 2, when his bail application was heard.
