Former Attorney‑General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN) and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, have been admitted to ₦200 million bail each by a Federal High Court in Abuja as they face terrorism financing, conduct preparatory to terrorism, and illegal firearms possession charges brought by the Department of State Services (DSS). Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the bail on February 27, 2026, setting strict conditions that include two sureties each in like sum, with one surety required to own developed landed property in Asokoro or Maitama, Abuja, and the deposit of international passports with the court registrar.
Malami and his son were arraigned earlier in the month on a five‑count charge alleging that the former AGF “knowingly abetted terrorism financing” by declining to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were forwarded to his office while he served as AGF and Minister of Justice, contrary to provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. The prosecution also alleges unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition at their Birnin Kebbi residence. The defendants pleaded not guilty to all counts.
The court ordered that Malami and his son remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until they perfect the bail conditions, and adjourned the matter to March 4 for trial commencement. Analysts say the bail reflects both judicial restraint and the gravity of the charges, underscoring intense legal scrutiny of high‑profile cases.
