The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mike Ozekhome, a prominent Nigerian lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), over allegations linked to a disputed property in the United Kingdom. The arrest comes after a series of complex legal proceedings involving claims of ownership of a London property located at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX.
The arrest happened on, February 27, 2026.
Ozekhome faces a fresh 12-count charge filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, including allegations of forgery, impersonation, and abetment, under the Penal Code Law 2009. The charges stem from claims that forged documents and a false Nigerian international passport were allegedly used to support ownership of the UK property.
The EFCC said Ozekhome will be formally arraigned as investigations continue. Legal observers have noted the case’s high profile, given Ozekhome’s standing in Nigeria’s legal community and the cross-border implications involving UK tribunals and Nigerian authorities. The commission emphasized that the arrest aligns with its ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and uphold legal accountability, signaling that even prominent figures are not immune to prosecution.
