A driver was taken to hospital after a collision on Eko Bridge on Sunday morning, which badly damaged a vehicle and caused heavy traffic in Lagos State.

The accident happened around 6 am on the bridge heading inward toward NEPA and involved a truck and a white car.

Confirming the incident on its X handle, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the white car overturned during the crash, leaving one driver injured.

Although details of the driver’s condition were not immediately known, LASTMA said the injured person was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The agency said an accident involving two vehicles occurred on Eko Bridge inward NEPA, leading to the deployment of tow trucks to the scene.

It added that LASTMA officials and police officers from the Ebute Ero Divisional Police Station were managing the situation, while traffic was reduced to one lane, causing slow movement and a traffic backlog around Offin Canal.

In a later update, LASTMA said the damaged vehicles had been removed from the bridge and normal traffic flow was expected to return along the route.

Eko Bridge, which connects major parts of Lagos across the lagoon, carries thousands of vehicles daily and is often the site of accidents that lead to traffic congestion.
